The fabric Kate used for her blog post is currently on sale!
This is the Rochester Dress by Maven Patterns using Dashwood Studio’s “Soirée” rayon in the blossom on navy colourway. Just look at this gorgeous fabric! It has a beautiful drape and a lovely soft feel to it. It hangs really well which makes it ideal for the gathered neckline on the Rochester. I’d say it’s an intermediate level pattern though one that can be taken stage by stage.
I made a size 14 with a slight bust adjustment and no length modifications (I’m 5’4”). The fabric is still in stock (at the time of writing) along with a few other designs from the same collection.
One of the great things about a having a local independent fabric and haberdashery shop nearby is you can pop in and get all sorts of things in one place or order online and pick up or have posted out. Their packaging is plastic free too so you’re saving the turtles and polar bears too. Escape and Create is one of the few online shops that sell fabric in 10cm increments so you don’t have to buy full or half metres. I used 2.3m for this dress, and was able to choose exactly that. Again, the top version uses 1.3m.
Julie and the team at E&C also run lots of courses. I did an overlocker course with Pam and the tips and tricks I learnt come in handy alongside the course booklet. They also offer lampshade making, children’s courses and patchwork and quilting too. They also offer Sewcial sewing sessions on a Thursday! Have a look and come on down!

Kate was provided with £30 towards this fabric in exchange for her blog post and photos. She was allowed to choose what she made with the fabric, and all thoughts and opinions are her own.
