Beginners Patchwork & Quilting 8 wks from Mon 14th Sept 7.30pm
Patchwork for Beginners.
Patchwork is so popular and can be seen right from it's true origins in scrapping together bits of fabric and repurposing worn out goods through to beautiful decorative works of art and now more recently on the Dior catwalk used in stunning ways to create innovative garments. So, there's room for a huge array of modern uses as well as traditional quilts.
On this 8 week course you will make a sampler quilt with 8 different techniques forming a block each. You'll learn how to construct a specifically sized block using techniques such as Square in a square, Friendship star, Churn dash, Ohio star, Flying geese, Shoofly, Triple railroad and Courthouse steps!
Then you'll learn how to add sashing, borders; quilting (including free motion) and binding. We'll look at how patterns are put together and how to calculate your fabric requirements.
Dates: Monday 14th, 21st and 28th Sept; 19th Oct; 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd November. Note that there no classes on 5th, 12th or 26th Oct due to holidays, the Michaelmas Fair and Half Term.
There are no "quilt police" in our classes. Anything goes. We just want to have some fun and create individual and unique pieces. So don't worry if you think you can't sew in a straight line! Although you do need to be comfortable with using a sewing machine to join this class. If you are a total beginner to sewing with a machine then try one of our Learn to Sew classes first.
