  • Universal Sewing Machine Needles (preferably size 80 or 90)
  • Pins
  • Wonder clips
  • Safety pins (curved preferably)
  • Unpicker/Seam Ripper
  • Scissors - one pair for cutting out fabric; one pair for paper and a small pair for snipping threads and clipping fabrics

Project Requirements

  • 1 Charm Pack - or 36 fabrics a minimum of 5" square (preferably larger so that they can be cut accurately to size). You could use fat quarters if you are happy with duplicating fabrics across the quilt - we recommend a minimum of 6 to get a balance in the quilt.
  • Matching thread (if you have contrasting colour fabrics then a light grey normally works well).

The following are needed but not for the first session, so if you are not sure, delay purchasing these and ask us for some advice.

  • Sashing Fabric (the strips between the squares) - 1m of quilting cotton (optional)
  • Border Fabric - 50cm of quilting cotton
  • Binding Fabric - 50cm of quilting cotton
  • Backing Fabric - 1m of quilting cotton
  • Wadding - 1m (your choice of the type - ask us on the course if you would like some advice as you only need the charm pack for the first week).

All Machine Sewing Classes

We do not provide sewing machines for classes as we believe that you will learn more from using your own machine. If your machine is too heavy to lift; let us know before the class and we can make exception by prior arrangement.

We can help you to get your sewing machine from your car to the workshop space upstairs if you pull up outside the shop on the double yellow lines to drop it off. Then you can go and park in the car park behind.

Lunch Breaks

If your class goes over lunchtime you can either:

  • Bring your lunch with you
  • Pre-order your lunch from the lovely cafe opposite the shop (The Commute). (They now do take out sandwiches and paninis too).

Our day long classes generally only break for a maximum 30 minutes so there isn't really time to go out and buy lunch during the day.
