Classes
We have a lovely bright studio space to host our classes.
Use the links below for more information on each specific class.
Generic Information
- Booking
- You can book here online, in the shop or over the phone.
- Please can we ask that, before you book, you take a look at our booking and cancellation policy which is available here. Generally, we cannot offer a refund once a place is booked. We liken the booking to that of a theatre ticket. Most of the work has been done prior to the actual class taking place.
- Class Sizes
- We keep class sizes very small to ensure that you can get the most out of them.
- Generally our learn to sew classes have a maximum of 4, our patchwork classes a maximum of 8 and all others a maximum of 6.
- Our Tutors
- All of our tutors have many years experience; not just in their particular sewing field but also in teaching. We are in the process of updating our website to include a section on tutors.
- Accessibility
- Please note that our workshop space is upstairs and that one of our fire escape staircases is fairly steep. Unfortunately, we don't have a lift. You can see more about our accessibility policy here.
-
What to Bring / Requirements Lists
- There is a list of what you need to bring on our website against each class. If you aren't sure what anything means, do get in touch.
- We don't send out reminder e-mails about the class anymore. We ask that you don't purchase supplies too early as we may have to cancel/postpone a class if we have insufficient bookings.
-
Discounts available whilst you are on a course/here for a class
- We offer a 10% discount on all your purchases whilst you are here for a class or for purchases needed for a class. If you are on a course with us, then all of your purchases during the period of the course will be discounted. The discount applies to products only and not on classes or gift cards.
- Coping with High Temperatures
- When the temperatures are high, we operate the following policy:
-
-
- Red weather warning. We will postpone the class and re-schedule on a date that suits the majority. If you are unable to attend the re-scheduled date we will either convert your payment into a credit or offer you a full refund.
- Amber weather warning. Classes will go ahead. We have the following in place to mitigate the effects of high temperatures:
- Each student is provided with an individual fan to be used during the class. They are portable plus standalone.
- There is a large free standing fan that is very effective at moving the air around.
- We offer a constant supply of cold water.
- We are moving towards irons that automatically switch off.
- The windows have coverings (blinds/curtains) which are used to reduce the direct sun effect.
- We will offer an earlier start in the morning where possible.
- We have a fridge for you to store food and drinks.
-
The building is very old plus it's south west facing so later in the day it does get warm. We suggest that in addition to our measures that you also wear appropriate clothing for the heat; bring an additional hand held fan if possible and bring spare drinks bottles that you can keep in the fridge until you need them. If you have any health concerns over the heat; please do get in touch before the class.
