Classes - What to Bring (Requirements List) - Dressmaking (Patchwork & Quilted Jacket)
Requirements List - Dressmaking (Patchwork & Quilted Jacket)
Using the Tamarack pattern from Grainline Studios (included in the price of the course). The pattern size range goes from a bust size of 32" to 56".
Fabric
- 1m in scrap fabric (preferably quilting cotton) or 1 charm pack for the patchwork. This is a guide only as if you decide to do a large amount of patchwork you may need more of this and less of the co-ordinating fabric.
- 2m of co-ordinating fabric for the background.
- 2.2m fabric for the lining (preferably quilting cotton).
Normally in garment sewing we would say to wash your fabrics before sewing but this won't work with a charm pack so we don't recommend you wash any of your fabrics first. The jacket will be washable but as with any quilted garment, it will give a slightly slouchy look upon washing unless it is quilted with quilt lines very close together.
Wadding
- Will be discussed on the course. It is not required for the first week.
Interfacing
- 30cm lightweight fusible (Vilene H180)
Notions
- 50cm fabric to make your own bias binding (you could also use quilting cotton scraps) or 5m of pre-made 25mm bias binding.
- Matching thread.

Machine Sewing Classes
We do not provide sewing machines for classes as we believe that you will learn more from using your own machine. If your machine is too heavy to lift; let us know before the class and we can make exception by prior arrangement.
We can help you to get your sewing machine from your car to the workshop space upstairs if you pull up outside the shop on the double yellow lines to drop it off. Then you can go and park in the car park behind the shop (see directions here).
Lunch Breaks
If your class goes over lunchtime you can either:
- Bring your lunch with you
- Pre-order your lunch from the lovely cafe opposite the shop (The Commute).
Our classes generally only break for a maximum 30 minutes so there isn't really time to go out and buy lunch during the day.
We have tea and coffee available all day free of charge. In classes less than 3 hours we ask that you come early and make a drink before we start.
