Fabric and Bag Hardware
You will need to collect your pattern from the shop prior to the course so that you can source your fabrics and notions; cut out your fabric and interfacing and complete any fusing of interfacing required.
It is recommended that you do not purchase fabric for the exterior with a one-way design or nap.
In order to help you make a fabric choice, it is worth noting that when you view the photogrpah of the bags, the exterior fabric is the solid colour and the patterned fabric is the exterior pocket.
As an indication of requirements, for the large size you will need approx:
0.5m Exterior Fabric
0.5m Accent Fabric (includes enough fabric for Exterior Pockets and Strap/Strap Holders
0.8m Lining Fabric (includes enough fabric for the Interior Pocket)
2.30m Interfacing
30cm zipper for top closure
2 x 25mm D-Rings
2 x 25mm Swivel Clasps
1 x 25mm Strap slider
1 x 18mm (small) Magnetic Clasp
Polyester thread,
water-soluble pen/tailor’s chalk,
ruler,
size 14 or 16 denim or Microtex needle,
Fabric Suggestions:
Canvas (6-8 oz. weight) for Exterior* fabric. Quilting cotton for Accent and Lining fabrics.
*depending on your exterior or accent fabric choice (such as a heavier canvas or a waxed canvas in a 7-9 oz. weight), you may be able to omit the interfacing for the exterior fabric and/or some of the accent pieces. For this option, reduce fusible interfacing requirement to 1 ¼ [¾] yards and do not interface those pieces
All Machine Sewing Classes
We do not provide sewing machines for classes as we believe that you will learn more from using your own machine. If your machine is too heavy to lift; let us know before the class and we can make exception by prior arrangement.
We can help you to get your sewing machine from your car to the workshop space upstairs if you pull up outside the shop on the double yellow lines to drop it off. Then you can go and park in the car park behind.
Lunch Breaks
If your class goes over lunchtime you can either:
- Bring your lunch with you
- Pre-order your lunch from the lovely cafe opposite the shop (The Commute). They also now do takeway sandwiches and paninis.
Our classes generally only break for a maximum 30 minutes so there isn't really time to go out and buy lunch during the day.
We have tea and coffee available all day free of charge. In classes less than 3 hours we ask that you come early and make a drink before we start if you would like one.
