Project Requirements

1. Spectacular Savanna

  • Pattern (available here)
  • Fabric will depend on whether you want to make the full quilt or part. We suggest that you cut out for one animal (either in class or beforehand) and bring fabric sufficient for this only in the first week.
  • Thread
  • Wadding or fleece. Amount will depend on whether you make a quilt or cushion covers.
  • Fabric for binding (only if you are using wadding and making one of the quilt versions).

2. Beautiful Birds

  • Patterns are available here. You will need to purchase the pattern and print out the templates prior to the class. You can buy each bird separately or as a bundle.
  • Fabric (Quilting Cotton)
    • At least 10 different fabrics for the piecing of the birds. This is a great way to use up scraps as each bird takes up a small amount in each.
    • 6 Fat Quarters for the background of each bird (there will be enough to use these as a part of the 10 above should you choose).
    • At least 1 fat quarter for the sashing and borders although this will be discussed in class as it will depend on what you want to make the birds up into.
    • Backing fabric and wadding will also be discussed on the course.
  • Bias Binding for the border (25mm/1" wide) or you could use the leftover fabric for a scrappy border.
  • Matching thread

3. Movement in Squares

  • 1.1m of patterned fabric
  • 0.4m of plainish dark fabric
  • 2.1m of plainish light fabric for the background
  • Matching thread (if you have contrasting colour fabrics then a light grey normally works well).
  • Wadding or fleece (at least 140cm x 160cm)
  • 50cm of fabric for binding (only if you are using wadding).
  • The pattern will be provided free of charge.

4. Carpenters Star 3 Yard Quilt

  • 3 yards of fabric - 1 main, 1 dark tone and 1 light tone (we recommend you bring a metre of each).
  • 43" x 60" minimum wadding for the full quilt
  • backing fabric
  • matching thread
  • The pattern will be provided free of charge.

5. Bring along your own project

  • Pattern and fabrics per your own requirements. Brenda will be here to help you with any patchwork project; whether it be starting afresh or having some help to get something finished.

All Machine Sewing Classes

We do not provide sewing machines for classes as we believe that you will learn more from using your own machine. If your machine is too heavy to lift; let us know before the class and we can make exception by prior arrangement.

We can help you to get your sewing machine from your car to the workshop space upstairs if you pull up outside the shop on the double yellow lines to drop it off. Then you can go and park in the car park behind.

Lunch Breaks

If your class goes over lunchtime you can either:

  • Bring your lunch with you
  • Pre-order your lunch from the lovely cafe opposite the shop (The Commute). (They now do take out sandwiches and paninis too).

Our day long classes generally only break for a maximum 30 minutes so there isn't really time to go out and buy lunch during the day.
