Dressmaking - Beginners (7 Week Introductory Course)
New for 2025 - Now 7 weeks giving us an extra week.
Learn all the essentials that you need to kick start your dressmaking ambitions.
We break down each of the basic techniques; like adjusting a pattern, setting in a sleeve, inserting a zip and applying a facing; into very simple to follow steps so that you can build up your knowledge quickly and apply what you have learnt to every garment you make.
It's fast paced as we try and cram in as much as possible; so there is quite a bit of homework; but you'll make both a top and a skirt.
We'll also help you to understand your body shape and how that then reflects into sizing and pattern adjustments.
You' will go home with comprehensive notes and samples to refer back to; plus a free gift from us in the form of a tailors ham or sleeve ham.
This course is suitable for those with basic sewing machine skills but you do need experience with changing threads/bobbins/feet and need to be comfortable using your machine.
If you have struggled with dressmaking in the past and want to have another go; then this is the course for you too; but if you just haven't sewn clothes for a while and want a refresher, we recommend that you join our dressmaking days rather than this course.
All the patterns that you need are included in the price of the course but the fabric and notions are not.
