Dressmaking - Beginners part 1 (4 Week Introductory Course)

Ever wanted to make your own clothes but weren't sure where to start? Watched the Sewing bee and been inspired? 

Join us for our 4 week introduction to dressmaking course and learn the basics that you will need to start sewing your own clothes.

We cover a huge variety of techniques; from how to choose the right pattern and how to adjust it for your body shape through to techniques such as darts, zips, understitching and how to make fit adjustments. 

We make a skirt on this course - the style options are really varied and it's the best place to start as we can teach you a lot of the fundamentals first. So, even if you never wear skirts; don't be put off as it's possible to make one with very little fabric but learn lots along the way.  

We break down each of the basic techniques into small steps and we send out handouts after each class with fully photographed step by step guides. 

We want to teach you as much as possible on this course; so it's fast paced and there is quite a bit of homework; but you'll learn loads!

This is the first in a series of courses that run throughout the academic year. 

Who is the class suitable for?

You don't need a huge amount of sewing experience to join this course but you do need to have made a few things and have experience with changing threads/bobbins/feet. So long as you are comfortable using your machine you will be fine. 

You do not need to have made any clothes previously.

If you have struggled with dressmaking in the past and want to have another go; then this is the course for you too; but if you just haven't sewn clothes for a while and want a refresher, we recommend that you join our dressmaking days rather than this course.

What's included in the course?

The pattern is included but the fabric and notions are not. We will advise during the first week what to buy so please don't rush out and get fabrics etc before the course starts. We will also advise you on equipment needed (there isn't much extra for dressmaking). 

Whilst you are on the course, any fabrics/notions etc that you purchase from us will be discounted by 10%.
